I had a bit of a difficult time figuring out what I should blog about for my first official post on SMK. I thought long and hard about it, and came to the conclusion—why not post about the most recent joy in my life? And, you know, because really..everyone DOES love puppies. So, because of that, here are some adorable photos of my new baby. I might be biased, but he's kind of the cutest puppy ever.
Zac and I had been talking about getting a puppy for over a year. I knew it likely wouldn't happen until after we got married, and I was okay with that. We wanted to be settled down in our own house before thinking about getting one. I was pretty sure I wanted a yellow lab. My family had a chocolate lab while I was in high school, and I wanted a super friendly, energetic dog like Ellie.
After we got settled in our new house and I was working from home every day, the itch for a canine companion was getting really strong. All of December, I'd been googling "Puppies in Lincoln" almost every day. One night in early January, Zac and I were driving home from a dinner out, and we started talking about it again. We decided we'd absolutely find one in the next month. That very next morning, as part of my daily routine, I googled it again—this time a Craigslist listing came up of the most adorable almost-2-month-old Australian Shepherd—Shih-Poo mix. I immediately emailed Zac (and then called him within seconds—I guess you could say I was excited!). Zac thought he looked like a pretty cool little pup and agreed that I should reach out to the owner. To no one's surprise, there were others very interested in the little guy.
Even though he wasn't the yellow lab I was wanting, after I'd seen the pictures of him, I no longer cared what type of dog I got—I wanted this adorable little guy, badly! In my head, he was already ours, but I tried my hardest not to get my hopes up too much since others were interested. I kept telling myself, Zac and I are absolutely the best fit for this puppy—nobody could possibly be better than us (ha!). Long story short, we went to see him that evening after work, the owners decided we were, in fact, the best fit for him, and we took him home that same night.
We couldn't be happier with our new puppy!
